X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, experienced widespread technical issues on Friday, affecting tens of thousands of users across its web and mobile applications.

According to Downdetector.com, over 53,000 users reported problems accessing the platform as of 2:46 p.m. ET Thursday. More than half of the complaints centered around inability to use the X mobile app, while others struggled to access the website.

Web users encountered error messages stating "Something went wrong. Try reloading" when attempting to view posts. The service disruption lasted approximately 30 minutes before normal functionality was restored.

This marks the latest in a series of technical difficulties for the platform since Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition in October 2022. A similar outage occurred on March 10, which Musk attributed to "a massive cyberattack." In August 2024, another major disruption impacted two-thirds of users who reported problems with both the app and website.

The platform has undergone substantial changes under Musk's leadership, including an 80% reduction in workforce and complete rebranding from Twitter to X in July 2023. In May 2024, the company officially transitioned to X.com, retiring the twitter.com domain.

Previous technical challenges included feature impairments in July 2023 and the crash of a high-profile Twitter Spaces event featuring presidential candidate Ron DeSantis in March 2024.

The latest outage highlights ongoing stability concerns for the platform as it continues to evolve under new ownership and management.
